I was sent a pedal by a collector. He'd owned many vintage Muffs, but this was his favorite. Could I build a replica? he asked. Sure, I said.
What a beauty it was!
The circuit is well documented, but I wanted to see why this one was special. I measured a number of crucial components and found a number were off spec. I also paid a lot of attention to the transistors and their biasing voltages.
With careful transistor selection and matching some of the drifted or off-spec parts...lo and behold!
I built three of them into large stainless steel enclosures, finished with hammertone. The face plates are etched copper to which I chemically patinaed. The knobs are cast in resin and molded from original Sovtek ones.
Of these, only #3 remains for sale. (I can also build this version of the circuit into regular sized enclosures, see my other listing.)
